What is the Women's Class all about?

Jiu-jitsu is for everyone, young and old, male and female. Getting started on this life journey can be intimidating for anyone, but the hardest thing to do in jiu-jitsu is to take those first steps. The purpose of this short overview is to give you some peace of mind about the decision to put on that gi for the first time and join us. Over the years, several women have expressed an interest in our classes, but some have shared concerns. For example, upon first glance, jiu-jitsu can appear to be aggressive in nature. As an observer, watching 220 lb men holding each other on the ground seems intimidating to some women who are either concerned that they will be injured by this or that they personally don't yet have the strength to hold their partners at bay. What you will find on the mat, however, is that jiu-jitsu is actually (and literally, in fact) a gentle art. This martial art is centered on technique, versus brute force. In addition, at Phantom, we prioritize taking care of our partners and ensuring physical and emotional safety in every class. This is the primary reason that we are now offering a women's' only course. Our plan is to implement a specific curriculum that introduces women to the essential components of jiu-jitsu, in a non-competitive, learner-focused environment.
